A standard for real-time operating systems

There are many real time OSes out there, each of them with a proprietary set of interfaces, threading/task model, features and tools. It would certainly be nice to have a standard for real time OS, which would speed up development as well as ensure easy portability of applications.

ITRON is a standard that meets exactly the above needs. But ITRON has only caught on in Japan.
